Pochettino ‘happy’ with Mudryk improvement

Mauricio Pochettino has said that he is happy with the improvement of Mykhailo Mudryk at Chelsea and has opened up on the winger’s adaptation to the Premier League.

Mudryk has struggled to make an impression since signing for Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth up to £88.5m during the January transfer window, with the 22-year-old having failed to score in 23 appearances across all competitions.

The Ukraine international has started just twice in the Premier League so far this season, but Pochettino has been pleased with the progress that Mudryk has made and has discussed the challenges the winger has faced in adjusting to life in English football.

“Mischa is a very talented player of course. You need to go with him slowly,” Pochettino told his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Fulham.

“His culture is very different, but he is trying to be more open, to adapt, to be more involved, on and off the pitch.

“He is doing a massive effort to try to integrate himself and understand better what it means to play in the team. It’s not about arriving and performing when you are young.

“It’s about adapting, helping them to settle. Then the most difficult thing is to understand what they need to settle and feel comfortable and express their talent.

“He is young and he is going to improve, and we are so happy with the way he is improving.”
