Erik ten Hag has backed Marcus Rashford to rediscover his goalscoring form for Manchester United after an underwhelming start to the season.
Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions during a career-best campaign in 2022/23, but has struggled to replicate that form this season and has scored just once in eight appearances.
The 25-year-old produced a poor performance during the 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, with Rashford’s erratic decision-making earning groans from the Old Trafford crowd.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray, Ten Hag backed last season’s leading scorer to re-find his form.
“The facts are he is not scoring in this moment, but he had opportunities,” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference.
“He had five or six chances against Brighton and if he works hard, if he invests, every day, goes with the right focus and if the team around him supply and help him and support him with movement then it will come. Marcus is a player who is capable of scoring goals in every game and when he comes in the right spot, he will score.”
Defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend confirmed United’s worst start to a league season in 34 years, while the Red Devils have now lost five of their nine games in all competitions this season.
Ten Hag admits his side have been disappointed with recent performances but has called on United to move forward.
“We are disappointed with the result. You have to analyse the game and move forward.
“I think the team is moving forward; you have to make adjustments. We don’t have a full-back on the left side. There are shortages in our game.
“A lot of positives, but at the end of the day it is about results and we didn’t get it.”
