Eddie Howe says he can’t wait to experience Champions League football at St James’ Park as Newcastle prepare to host Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle will host a Champions League fixture for the first time in 20 years on Wednesday evening, as the French champions visit St James’ in the group stages.
Howe’s side earned a valuable point with a goalless draw at AC Milan in their opening fixture and next face a PSG side who will be targeting success in Europe this season.
Howe is looking forward to a special atmosphere at Newcastle as the Magpies prepare to take on Kylian Mbappe and company on home soil, but says his team must handle the occasion and control their emotions.
“I can’t wait to experience the home atmosphere and what our fans create,” said Howe at his pre-match press conference.
“I think it will be a really memorable night and hopefully our performance will make it that way, too.
“The fans will bring their positivity, noise, enthusiasm and love for the game. It’s up to us to use that powerfully and positively on the pitch. You can use too much emotion on the pitch, but I think we’ve been getting that balance right at home.”
