Manchester City are watching the progress of Xavi Simons on loan at RB Leipzig, following the midfielder’s impressive start in the Bundesliga.
Simons has had an excellent start to his career at Leipzig with three goals and four assists in six Bundesliga appearances, while City will get to view the 20-year-old up close when Pep Guardiola’s team take on the German side in the Champions League’s group stages on Wednesday evening.
Simons signed on loan for Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, after the French side triggered a buy-back option to re-sign the midfielder from PSV Eindhoven during the summer.
The Netherlands international ended last season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 19 goals and has continued that form since moving to Germany, with his form piquing the interest of the Citizens and Barcelona.
Simons spent nine seasons in the academy system at Barcelona as a youngster, but interested clubs face a difficult task in persuading PSG to sell the star.
90min are reporting that PSG consider Simons a vital part of their long-term project and have no interest in allowing the Dutchman to leave on a permanent basis. He is expected to be reintroduced to the PSG squad for next season.
