‘Almost perfect’ – Frank delivers ‘brutal’ response to heartbreaking Man United defeat

Brentford boss Thomas Frank was left devastated by Manchester United’s late win over his side at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Mathias Jensen put the visitors ahead in the 26th minute, but second-half substitute Scott McTominay scored an injury-time brace to secure a thrilling and much-needed victory for Erik ten Hag.

“Football is brutal in moments like this,” the German told Premier League Productions after the final whistle.

“I think we did so many things right, coming here to Old Trafford, almost perfect first half, pressed high, good on the counter and well deserved lead.

“Of course second half you know you will be put under pressure here. I actually felt like we defended it very well, and didn’t give any big chances away… well until the third minute of injury time.

“Then of course to lose the game is even more brutal. At least a draw was probably a fairer reflection.”

When asked to explain the dramatic final few minutes of the contest, Frank responded: “The beauty of the game of football. The ball dropped in the right areas for them, that’s it.”

He added: “First half we were much better than in the second, but so close to being the perfect away performance.”

Brentford are now six Premier League games without a win, but more concerningly for Frank it’s the fifth time this season the Bees have dropped points from a winning position.

“Sometimes you fall on the wrong end of it, but we need to look at the detail. Normally we are very good, only the second time we lost from a winning position in almost three years,” Frank concluded.
