Mauricio Pochettino has revealed what impresses him about Cole Palmer after the youngster opened his account for Chelsea on Saturday.
The 21-year-old, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in a transfer worth £45 million in the summer, scored from the penalty spot as the Blues defeated Burnley 4-1 at Turf Moor.
“He is a very talented player and he has the quality and he surprised me when I arrived because it was the day before the transfer window closed,” Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day after the final whistle.
“The way the he reads the situations and what the team needs in every situation, he can be the player who can link with his team-mates. Still very very young but with great personality and he has the talent and the quality which we saw today.”
Chelsea went behind after 15 minutes when Wilson Odobert opened the scoring, but they equalised just before halftime thanks to an own goal from Ameen Al-Dakhil.
Pochettino’s men turned up the heat after the interval, scoring three more times through Palmer’s penalty and goals from Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson. They sit 11th in the Premier League table on 11 points.
