Inter Miami unsure on potential Messi return to Barcelona

Inter Miami manager Gerardo Martino has said that he does not ‘know anything’ regarding rumours that Lionel Messi could return to Barcelona on loan.

Messi has been linked with a sensational return to Barcelona during the MLS off-season, which runs from October until February.

The Argentine has starred since signing for Inter Miami, scoring 12 goals in 13 appearances for the MLS outfit to inspire a turnaround in the club’s season.

Miami went 12 games unbeaten after Messi’s arrival from Paris Saint-German, but a recent hamstring injury has seen the 35-year-old miss five games and has coincided with a dip in form.

Defeat to FC Cincinnati – a fixture which saw Messi return as a substitute – at the weekend eliminated Miami from MLS postseason contention and the club’s manager, Martino, has now addressed talk of Messi returning to Barcelona on a short-term loan in the winter window.

“Is he going for fun? Maybe he’s going to visit Barcelona. Other than that, I don’t know anything else about it,” Martino said, as per GOAL.

Barcelona remain unbeaten in La Liga so far this season, but are third in the table after Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Granada. Goals from Lamine Yamal and Sergi Roberto rescued a result after the Catalans had trailed 2-0 at half-time.
