Manchester United add Inacio to centre-back shortlist

Manchester United have added Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio to the club’s shortlist of potential centre-back signings.

Erik ten Hag wants to bring in another defensive option in the coming transfer windows and the Red Devils are monitoring a number of players. Inacio is the latest to be included on the club’s shortlist, having impressed since breaking in the side at the Estádio José Alvalade.

The 22-year-old has made 129 appearances in all competitions and has made an immediate impact at international level, scoring twice in three appearances for Portugal after netting a brace in the nation’s record-breaking 9-0 win over Luxembourg last month.

Last season, Inacio led Portugal’s Primeira Liga for passes into the final third and successful take-on percentage (85%), while he ranked second for progressive passes and progressive carrying distance.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United are tracking the left-sided defender, who has also been linked with Liverpool, Spurs and Real Madrid in recent windows.

United are also monitoring Benfica teenager Antonio Silva, Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba ahead of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils were keen to sign another centre-back in the summer, but saw plans postponed after Harry Maguire’s proposed move to West Ham broke down. United did re-sign veteran defender Jonny Evans on a free transfer to add defensive depth.
