Newcastle plan Emile Smith Rowe swoop

Newcastle are planning a swoop to sign Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, with the midfielder having struggled for regular first-team football in north London.

Smith Rowe has failed to start a Premier League game since May 2022, with the 23-year-old sidelined for much of last season due to injury and since failing to break back into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

The England international has featured for just 10 minutes across two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and could look to move on in January in search of more minutes.

The Express are reporting that Newcastle are monitoring his situation ahead of a potential move, though the midfielder’s £50m asking price could prove problematic due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

A loan move could be an option for Newcastle, while Arsenal are ‘not opposed’ to allowing Smith Rowe to depart on a temporary deal in the January transfer window.

Smith Rowe – who has won three caps for England – retains hopes of making the Three Lions squad for next summer’s European Championship, if he can secure regular football across the second half of the season.
