Rasmus Hojlund talks down Erling Haaland comparisons

Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund has talked down comparisons between him and Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.

Hojlund signed for Manchester United from Atalanta in a deal which could reach up to £72m during the summer and has made a promising start to his Premier League career, with three goals in eight appearances across all competitions.

The Denmark international’s exciting emergence at Atalanta has drawn comparisons to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, given their similar position and playing style, natural left foot, and Scandinavian roots.

Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions during a record-breaking debut campaign at Manchester City last season, as Pep Guardiola’s side won a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.

Hojlund called his City counterpart arguably the ‘world’s best footballer’ and said he does not want to be compared to Haaland, who he believes is currently in a ‘class of his own’.

“Haaland? Better not to be compared, he’s in a class of his own,” Hojlund told TV2, as per Fabrizio Romano.

“I hope one day I can reach his level, but right now I think it’s too early. Erling is the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer!”
