Barcelona have reportedly added Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez to their list of transfer targets.
The Argentine has shown impressive early season form, registering six goals and four assists in all competitions while being deployed as a second striker by Pep Guardiola.
That has attracted the interest of Barcelona, according to Spanish outlet SPORT. The La Liga outfit want to sign cover for star striker Robert Lewandowski while they wait for incoming youngster Victor Roque to develop into a starter.
However, the chances of La Blaugrana signing Alvarez in the January transfer window are slim, by the admission of the club’s own sporting director, Deco.
Barcelona have been placed under strict restraints by La Liga due to their financial struggles, with the league cutting their spending cap by almost €400 million for this season.
In an interview with SPORT, Deco says “it will be difficult to make new additions” in January, before adding “I don’t think it will be possible”.
Real Madrid are also said to be interested in signing Alvarez, should they fail in their attempts to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG.
