Arsenal could revive interest in in-form Villa star

Arsenal could revive their interest in signing in-form Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, after a failed attempt to sign the Brazilian in 2022.

Arsenal saw three bids turned down for the 25-year-old during the 2022 summer transfer window, with Luiz recommitting his future to Villa and signing a new long-term contract.

Luiz has been an integral figure in Villa’s improvement under Unai Emery and scored twice in the 4-1 win over West Ham at the weekend, as the Villans moved within one point of the Champions League places.

Luiz has scored in six consecutive Premier League home games for Villa and 90min are reporting that Arsenal are considering reviving their interest in the Brazil international.

Mikel Arteta remains keen to add to his midfield options in the January window, amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s fitness issues this season.

Fluminense’s Andre has also been named as a potential target, alongside Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, Valencia’s Javi Guerra and Royal Antwerp teenager Arthur Vermeeren.

Luiz would offer a more established and Premier League ready option for the Gunners, but Villa would demand a big fee for a player who has played the best football of his career in recent months.

Luiz was named as Aston Villa’s Player of the Season for 2022/23 as the club secured European qualification for the first time in over a decade.
