Kalvin Phillips is likely to leave Manchester City during the January transfer window after struggling for regular first-team football at the Etihad.
Phillips has started just two Premier League games since his £45m move to the club from Leeds in 2022, with the England international having struggled to win a place in Pep Guardiola’s plans.
The 27-year-old’s place in the England squad for next summer’s European Championship is under threat and Phillips is set to depart in the winter window, having featured for just 167 minutes across all competitions this season.
Guardiola has preferred summer arrival Mateo Kovacic and teenager Rico Lewis in central midfield positions this season, despite the recent suspension of Rodri.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that it is ‘very likely’ Phillips will leave in the new year, while Sky Sports Germany have revealed that Liverpool are among the clubs monitoring his situation.
The Reds remain interested in signing a defensive midfielder as Jurgen Klopp continues to rebuild his engine room, having been frustrated in attempts to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia during the summer window.
Interest from the Premier League is expected to be high, with Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham all long-term admirers of the midfielder.
Juventus and Bayern Munich are also among the clubs considering a winter window move for Phillips.
