Premier League clubs chasing out-of-contract Spain winger

Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Aston Villa are among the clubs chasing a deal to sign Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams on a free transfer this summer.

Williams is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and his situation has alerted top clubs across Europe, with the 21-year-old having emerged as one of the most exciting young players in La Liga.

Williams scored nine goals in all competitions for Athletic Bilbao last season and has impressed with his electric pace and dribbling ability. He made his senior debut for Spain last year and has since scored twice in 10 appearances for La Roja.

Aston Villa made an attempt to sign the winger during the summer but failed to agree a deal, with Unai Emery’s side set to face competition from a number of Premier League rivals in their bid to sign Williams this summer.

90min are reporting that Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have all joined the race for Williams, who will be free to negotiate with foreign sides in January.

Bayern Munich and Juventus are also keen on the winger, who ranked fourth in Europe’s big five leagues for progressive carries last season and eighth for successful take-ons.

Athletic remain hopeful the academy product will agree a new deal, with older brother, Inaki, having spent his entire career with the club to date.
