Newcastle United have suffered two injury blows ahead of games against Wolves, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Jacob Murphy is suspected to have sustained a “serious” shoulder injury during Wednesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Uefa Champions League, according to Eddie Howe. The winger was in pain when he was taken off just five minutes after being introduced to the game.
Alexander Isak has also re-injured his groin after he was substituted in the first half of the game at St James’ Park. The Swedish striker had suffered a groin injury earlier this month that ruled him out of the October international break.
“Looks like a recurrence of the groin problem, doesn’t look serious but it’s enough to keep him out and that’s a big blow for a player of his quality,” Howe told TNT Sport. “And then Jacob that looks quite serious, dislocation potentially of his shoulder, so never a good thing to see.”
Howe said that he was “absolutely devastated” for Murphy, but added that the club would “wait and see how bad it is”.
Elliott Anderson, who missed the game with a back a injury, is set to be out “for a few weeks”, while Harvey Barnes is sidelined with a toe injury that will keep him sidelined for several months.
The Magpies face Wolves at Molineux in the Premier League this weekend before taking on Man United at Old Trafford in the last-16 of the League Cup next Wednesday. They host Arsenal in the league on Saturday, November 4.
