Chelsea injury news ahead of Brentford clash

From one London derby to another, Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his side can go one better than their Arsenal draw and take all three points against Brentford.

At one point the Chelsea injury list was extensive, but iit s reducing week by week.

Chelsea injury news ahead of facing Brentford:

Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson

Armando Broja’s long-awaited return to football from a knee injury proved to be ill-fated, as he was absent for the Arsenal clash with another issue.

Whereas Nicolas Jackson featured in the game, he continues to be a doubt for the Brentford game, following surgery to his wrist.

Both players have trained this week, but Broja has been ruled out of the fixture.

When asked if the striker would be available in his pre-match press conference, the manager simply replied, ‘no’.

In more positive news, Jackson should be ready to go on Saturday.

Trevor Chalobah and Carney Chukwuemeka

Both Chalobah and Chukwuemeka were ruled out before the Arsenal game, with a statement being released on the club website confirming that both players had picked up a knock.

As a result, both players are set to miss out on this weekend’s game.

Ben Chilwell

A hamstring injury has kept Ben Chilwell out for almost a month, with a return date not in the near future.

Speaking on the matter in his press conference, Pochettino said, “It is difficult. I am no doctor and I cannot tell you what you are asking me. I think it is about judging day by day and we cannot say the period he will be out.”

Romeo Lavia

Positive news surrounds Romeo Lavia, who signed for the Blues in a £58 million deal this summer, as he has started his rehabilitation programme around Cobham.

However, the midfielder is still yet to make his first Chelsea appearance, and will be targeting early December for a return date.

Christopher Nkunku

After firing Chelsea to success in pre-season, the Blues’ new forward is still yet to play a competitive game for his new team.

An injury to his knee against Borussia Dortmund has sidelined Nkunku for months.

A return to light training is the next goal for the French international, with a return before the New Year not out of the question.

Speaking on the matter in his pre-match press conference, Pochettino said: “He is doing well, I think he is close, I hope he can be involved soon.

“I think he is a player when you see the goals from last season. He is a player that can provide goals and we are missing goals. It’s a player that can be important for us.”

Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana is continuing his recovery step by step, after suffering an ACL injury.
