Mauricio Pochettino has called for the Chelsea fans to trust the process after the club’s disappointing start to the new season.
Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League table after winning just three of their opening 10 league fixtures, with the Blues suffering a setback after a 2-0 home defeat to west London neighbours Brentford at the weekend.
The club’s inconsistent results have increased the pressure on Pochettino, who took charge of Chelsea during the summer.
Chelsea have spent more than £1bn on new players across the past three transfer windows with mixed results, but Pochettino has called on the fanbase to trust the process, as the Blues continue to invest in young talent.
“I know it is difficult to keep your feelings but it is normal,” Pochettino said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup clash with Blackburn Rovers tomorrow.
“The fans want to win and sometimes are frustrated when we don’t win. The message is to believe and trust in us and in the end it is about the process.”
Chelsea are without European competition this season, with Pochettino admitting that situation has increased the emphasis on domestic cup competition.
On the importance of the League Cup, he said: “I told you before. It is going to be really important for us. We are going to try and play with our best team. Maybe some players we need to rest because after Saturday we cannot take some risks.”
