Manchester United are continuing to monitor the performances of FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, amid Andre Onana’s difficult start in the Premier League.
Costa was a potential option for the Red Devils during the summer transfer window, before the club completed a £47.2m deal to sign Onana from Inter Milan.
Erik ten Hag had previously worked with Onana at former club Ajax, but the Cameroon international has had a challenging start at Manchester United and has come in for criticism after a number of unconvincing performances.
Portuguese publication A Bola are reporting that United are continuing to track Costa, should Onana’s performances not improve at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers outside of Europe’s major leagues and has been named as the Primeira Liga Goalkeeper of the Season in each of the past two campaigns.
Last season, Costa – who has won 18 caps for Portugal at international level – became the first goalkeeper to save three consecutive penalties in the Champions League, as Porto reached the competition’s Round of 16.
Porto are reluctant to lose Costa however, and will demand the shot-stopper’s €75m (£65.3m) release clause is met in either the January window or next summer.
