Tottenham injury news as Postecoglou provides update ahead of London derby

Ange Postecoglou has given an update on the injured players in his Tottenham squad ahead of their Monday night London derby against Chelsea.

In last week’s win over Crystal Palace, both Brennan Johnson and Rodrigo Bentancur came off the bench to make their returns from injury.

Meanwhile, left-back Destiny Udogie missed out with a fitness issue. Ben Davies replaced him at full-back but was forced off himself with a knock.

Postecoglou addressed these concerns prior to the match, which kicks off at 8pm at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The Premier League leaders will be eyeing another statement win to start the new month.

Tottenham injury news ahead of Chelsea match:

Destiny Udogie

Spurs were also the main event on Monday night football two weeks ago.

In that win over Fulham, Udogie was substituted just before the hour mark.

Postecoglou later said that the Italian had been feeling “a bit of tiredness”.

The former Udinese man wasn’t deemed fit enough to feature against Palace but the manager told Spurs Play: “We’ll see how he progresses, we’ve still got a few days before Monday’s game. He’s progressing through it and we’ll assess it closer to it.

“Everyone else is okay.”

Ben Davies

The Australian immediately contradicted himself, however, as he confirmed that Ben Davies is “unlikely” to be ready for the London derby.

Davies was absent from the Lilywhites’ squad against Fulham but came straight back into the starting 11 against Palace.

However, before the second half, Emerson Royal came on in his place at left-back.

The Welshman had missed the Fulham match after sustaining a knock, which appears to have returned.

Postecoglou confirmed: “He’s got a bit of a knock. He hasn’t trained with the team yet so (he’s) unlikely for Monday but there’s a couple of days to go.”

Emerson impressed off the bench against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles and may be in line for a start in this huge derby affair.

No updates were provided on Ryan Sessegnon, Hugo Lloris or on Ivan Perisic and Manor Solomon. The latter pair are likely to be out of action until the new year.
