Pep Guardiola has said the mood within the Manchester City squad is the best he can remember for ‘many, many years’.
Guardiola’s side are looking to build on a historic 2022/23 campaign that saw the Citizens claim a Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble.
City are top of the Premier League table after their weekend win over Bournemouth and can secure progress to the Champions League’s knockout rounds with victory over Young Boys on Tuesday evening. Ahead of the clash, Guardiola praised the atmosphere within his squad this season.
“The mood in the team is the best I can remember for many, many years,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“It’s really good, it’s a joy to manage this group of players.”
One of the new additions to the squad is Josko Gvardiol, who signed from RB Leipzig for a fee of around £77m last summer. Guardiola has been delighted with the early performances of the defender, and praised the Croatian for being ‘openminded’ to learning at the Etihad.
“Perfect, we knew he was an incredible person. He can be [used] as a central defender. We decided to play him in a back four and play at full-back offensively and defensively.
“He is incredibly openminded to listen and see what we want to do. He is just 21 and I am really pleased. At every training session he is an incredible professional.”
