Liverpool have joined the lengthening list of clubs interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz has enjoyed a spectacular start to the season at Leverkusen after returning to full fitness, having missed much of the last two campaigns with an ACL injury.
The 20-year-old has six goals and eight assists in 14 appearances across all competitions, form which has placed the German on the wish-list of Europe’s top teams.
The Mail are reporting that Liverpool have now entered the race to sign Wirtz, as the Reds consider potential long-term replacements for Mohamed Salah.
The 31-year-old was subject of a £150m bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad during the summer and remains a transfer target for Saudi sides as the division’s teams look to attract big name signings from Europe.
Wirtz has featured predominantly in a central role for Leverkusen, but can operate across the frontline, and has been a key figure in the club’s impressive start to the season under ex-Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. Leverkusen are two points clear of Bayern Munich at the top of the table, having made an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season.
Liverpool are not alone in their interest in Wirtz however, with Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern all said to be monitoring the progress of the midfielder, who is valued in the region of £80m at the BayArena.
