Key Man United pair ruled out until Christmas by Ten Hag

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag does not expect Casemiro or Lisandro Martinez to return to first-team action “before Christmas”.

Casemiro has not featured for the Red Devils since suffering a hamstring injury in the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle United in the League Cup last week and will be out for “several weeks”.

Martinez sustained a foot injury against Bayern Munich in the Uefa Champions League in September. The defender has reportedly undergone surgery twice on the problem, which initially flared up in April.

“I expect some back but – for instance Casemiro and Martinez – they have really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas,” Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with FC Copenhagen.

“I have some time schedules, but it’s always difficult to prospect that because they can always be setbacks during a rehab period. I’m always a little bit (more likely) to hold back on such issues.”

Marcus Rashford returned to training on Tuesday after missing Sunday’s win over Fulham on Saturday.

Man United are still without Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Amad Diallo through injury. Jadon Sancho remains exiled form the first team squad following his dispute with Ten Hag.
