Klopp criticises chaotic Liverpool performance at Toulouse

Jurgen Klopp criticised a ‘chaotic’ performance from Liverpool after his side lost 3-2 at Toulouse in the Europa League.

Liverpool missed the chance to confirm qualification to the knockout rounds as their 100% record in the group stage was ended in France.

Toulouse took the lead through Arron Donnum before half-time and doubled their lead after the break, with Thijs Dallinga firing home. The French side – 14th in Ligue 1 – could have had more with Dallinga twice having goals disallowed.

Liverpool pulled a goal back after a bizarre own goal, but Toulouse hit back immediately to retake control of the game.

Diogo Jota’s effort set up a grandstand finish and Jarrel Quansah looked to have rescued the Reds with a stoppage time goal, only for the 20-year-old’s effort to be disallowed in controversial circumstances, with Alexis Mac Allister penalised for handball in the build up.

Klopp was clearly angered at full-time, a feeling emphasised with a post-match press conference conducted in a media tent outside Stadium de Toulouse, amid the backdrop of the ecstatic home fans.

“We were as organised as this press conference – pretty chaotic,” Klopp said.

“We were not aggressive enough. We gave balls easily away. Real mistakes.

“With all the possession you have obviously you should create more but you cannot concede three goals here, that makes no sense.

“They fought harder and it was deserved. Congratulations to Toulouse.

“You can play as good as you want but if you don’t win decisive battles you have no chance in football.”
