Klopp preparing Liverpool for ‘super challenging’ Brentford

Jurgen Klopp has called facing Brentford a ‘super challenging’ game as Liverpool welcome the Bees to Anfield this weekend.

Liverpool will aim to bounce back from a disappointing draw at Luton and Thursday’s night’s Europa League setback against Toulouse this weekend, as the Reds look to continue their perfect record of eight wins from eight games at Anfield in all competitions this season.

Brentford arrive in good form after three consecutive Premier League wins and beat Liverpool in west London in January.

Klopp is well aware of the threat Thomas Frank’s side pose and discussed the strengths of Sunday’s opponents in his pre-match press conference.

“It’s super challenging to play Thomas Frank and Brentford for different reasons. I’m not sure they are 100% happy with this season but for sure losing Ivan Toney is brutal.

“They are stable in the table which is probably what Brentford want. Well organised, had a few problems this season to get used to the game without Ivan but when you look at the table they are in the middle with a tendency to go up.

“Sensational set pieces, really offensive players, really fast, counter-attacking really good. It’s always interesting to play them and difficult as well but it’s Anfield and we should use that.

Klopp was asked whether there were comparisons between Brentford and his time at German club Mainz, but believes the Bees have evolved past a status as top-flight underdogs.

“I’m not sure Brentford are still in that bracket. They are too smart, they are doing too well, very smart transfer business.

“Thomas is adapting, it’s really interesting. He is doing a brilliant job and he seems to be very happy there. He’s a cool guy, I respect him a lot.”
