Jota says ‘early days’ in title race after Liverpool beat Brentford

Diogo Jota said it is still ‘early days’ in terms of the Premier League title race after Liverpool beat Brentford 3-0 to move level on points with leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool cruised to a comfortable win over the Bees to extend their record to nine wins from nine games at Anfield in all competitions this season, with Mohamed Salah scoring twice – a brace which took the Egyptian to 200 goals in English football – before Jota’s fine effort wrapped up the win.

The results moves the Reds level on points with leaders Manchester City, ahead of their clash with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking on Liverpool being involved in the title race, Jota told PLP: “It’s still early doors. We need to keep winning to be able to be in that title fight towards the end. It is a long road.

“You never know. It’s still early days and people are fighting for their clubs. That’s what we like to see. Hopefully we are there at the end.”

On Salah’s importance to the team, he added: “He is always there, is a goal threat, creates chances and is really important for us like everyone knows. Congratulations to him on his 200th goal.

“We are different players obviously and we try to do our best to help the team. That is what we want to keep doing.”
