Bellingham and Colwill withdraw from England squad

Jude Bellingham and Levi Colwill have withdrawn from the England squad for November’s fixtures with Malta and North Macedonia.

England conclude their Euro 2024 qualification campaign this month with fixtures against Malta at Wembley and North Macedonia in Skopje.

The Three Lions are already assured of their place at next summer’s tournament, with the final fixtures representing a chance for Gareth Southgate to finalise his tactical plan.

However, the England manager has suffered another double injury blow after earlier withdrawals from James Maddison, Lewis Dunk and Callum Wilson, with Jude Bellingham and Levi Colwill having now left the squad.

Each joined up with the squad at St George’s Park this week for assessment, but have now returned to their club sides after being deemed unfit to feature.

Bellingham suffered a shoulder injury during Real Madrid’s goalless draw with Rayo Vallecano earlier this month, while Colwill was substituted at half-time during Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Tottenham on November 6.

Southgate has called up the uncapped trio of Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, Aston Villa centre-back Ezri Konsa and Manchester City teenager Rico Lewis to add to his options.
