Arsenal are ready to offer Ruben Neves a return to the Premier League as the midfielder looks to quit Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Neves made a shock move to the big-spending division last summer, signing for Al-Hilal from Wolves for a fee of £47m.
The transfer came as a surprise given Neves had openly discussed his desire to compete in the Champions League, with the Portugal international admitting the lucrative contract on offer in the Middle East was a major factor in his decision.
“The main factor was my family and the chance to give them the life I have always dreamt of for them – that was the biggest reason for me to not have any doubts,” Neves said.
“I have three kids and a lovely wife, and I need to take care of them, that is the biggest trophy in my career.”
However, reports from 90min have suggested that the midfielder is unhappy in Saudi Arabia and keen on a return to English football. Newcastle have been credited with an interest in signing Neves, though the club’s hopes of a deal could be complicated as the Premier League discuss rule changes on transfers between associated clubs.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, who own Newcastle, have a 75% controlling stake in Al-Hilal.
Arsenal are considering several midfield targets ahead of January, with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Fluminense’s Andre all of interest. Neves would represent a Premier League proven option for Mikel Arteta, with Thomas Partey’s future with the Gunners uncertain.
