Marc Guehi and Jarrad Branthwaite are reportedly transfer targets for Tottenham as the north Londoners look to sign a centre-back in January.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign, but their defensive options are stretched after Micky van de Ven was ruled out until the new year with a hamstring injury.
The out-of-favour Eric Dier and teenager Ashley Phillips are the only other recognised central defensive options as Postecoglou looks to find a partner for Cristian Romero at the heart of the defence.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs have placed two Premier League options on their shortlist of potential signings. Crystal Palace centre-back Guehi is among them, having impressed recruiters at the division’s top sides since signing for the Eagles from Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has earned nine caps for England since his international debut last year and has formed an excellent partnership with Joachim Andersen at club level. Manchester United and Liverpool have also been tentatively credited with interest.
Branthwaite is also on Tottenham’s radar, following his emergence at Everton this season. The 21-year-old spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at PSV Eindhoven, before winning a regular role under Sean Dyche this season. Everton were last week handed a 10-point deduction by the Premier League for FFP violations and dropped into the division’s relegation places as a result.
Malick Thiaw of AC Milan, Benfica defender Morato and Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio are also said to be being tracked by Spurs.
