Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted he will be keeping a keen eye on Manchester City’s clash with Liverpool this weekend as the Premier League title race heats up.
The division’s top two go head-to-head at the Etihad on Saturday lunchtime, with just a point separating the sides ahead of the game. Arsenal sit third in the table, level on points with second-placed Liverpool, in a tight-fought battle at the top.
Asked whether he will be watching the game at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Brentford, Arteta said the Gunners are always ‘interested’ in events elsewhere.
“We watch the games for sure as we are interested in the league and we are always on top of things.”
Arteta is expecting a tough challenge this weekend as the north Londoners cross the capital to take on Brentford. The Bees have won three of their last four games in the Premier League and Arteta admits the Gtech Community Stadium is a ‘difficult place to go’.
“Brentford are a really tough opponent and it is a difficult place to go. You look at all the clubs who go there and they make it extremely difficult. They are really effective and well coached. It will be a tough match.”
Aaron Ramsdale is set to return to the side for Arsenal at Brentford, with David Raya ineligible to face his parent club side under the terms of his loan agreement.
On Ramsdale, Arteta said: “My job is to try and help people in the very best possible way everyday to make him better and give them the best possible chance to fulfil the potential in their career and get to the highest possible position.
“There is no expectation with any player.”
