Pep Guardiola has reiterated his belief that Manchester City are innocent of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules and has said the case against the club is ‘not the same’ as at Everton.
Everton were last week handed a 10-point deduction by the Premier League after being deemed to have broken the division’s profit and sustainability rules, a sanction which has seen the Toffees drop into the relegation places.
Manchester City are fighting their own charges of 115 alleged FFP breaches over a 10-year period, with Everton’s sanctions have increased speculation over the potential punishment that could await the Citizens, if found guilty.
City have firmly denied any wrongdoing and Guardiola says he has no reason to question those in power at the Etihad.
“Why should I not believe? It’s the lawyers to make the defence in front of the judge. I didn’t change my opinion, we wait and after we accept the resolutions,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference, ahead of City’s clash with Liverpool this weekend.
On Everton’s 10-point deduction, the Spaniard said: “I’m not going to say one word about Everton because I don’t know the reality of what happened. They are two completely different cases. I know people are saying why don’t City go to the Conference but let’s wait.
“It’s two different cases, it’s not the same. One of them is longer, it’s more complicated.”
