Jurgen Klopp has said Liverpool’s trip to face Manchester City is a ‘super exciting game’ as the Premier League’s top two collide this weekend.
Liverpool make the short trip to face the Premier League champions at the Etihad sat second in the table, a point behind this weekend’s opponents.
The Reds have built a fierce rivalry with Pep Guardiola’s side in recent campaigns and Klopp has said he is relishing the chance to take on City once again. Ahead of the clash, Klopp said his team must be at their best to get a result.
“We are not perfect, we saw that, the last Premier League game, was ours to lose,” the German said at his pre-match press conference.
“We were not good there, I made a lot of changes, it was really on my responsibility but still we were not good against Luton, we could’ve won the game.
“A lot of games we were good and deserved what we got. With 10 men we were outstanding, these kind of things are all us. It’s not a test on how close we get to City, it’s just a really super exciting game, I would watch it wherever on the planet.
“We have to prepare for it properly and we know we have to be at our best to get a chance. We will see.”
Klopp added that he has been pleased with the development of his new look side this season as the Reds look to compete for the title.
“We had to change and we had to improve and that was a real challenge, we had famously, in the last few years, had new players come in and had to take a while to settle. Our boys here are still really young and the other boys who came in had to step in immediately.
“The luck we had was a proper pre-season, next summer will be completely different. We worked together to find ourselves a bit quicker. To create a new team and dynamic, it helps to overcome difficulties, you want to create them and give them a physical job, and when they overcome this, they do it together.
“We needed luck there as well, we had it, the boys deserve it and that gave us direction, our development goes in the right direction.
“Man City are who they are and they’re extremely strong and we have to be as strong as possible.”
