Florian Wirtz favours a move to Bayern Munich over the Premier League as interest increases in the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.
Wirtz has been in brilliant form this season for a Leverkusen side who remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga, with the 20-year-old enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s best young talents.
Wirtz has six goals and nine assists in 17 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen, who have won all but one of their 12 Bundesliga games to open up a two-point lead over Bayern Munich in the title race.
Premier League clubs are tracking his progress at the BayArena, with several of the division’s ‘Big Six’ sides holding an interest in the midfielder. However, Sky Germany are reporting that Wirtz is ‘leaning towards’ a transfer to Bayern Munich should he leave Leverkusen in the coming transfer windows.
Bayern have made Wirtz their top transfer target for 2024 and 2025, though a bid is dependent on the futures of Thomas Muller and Jamal Musiala. Muller’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the 34-year-old’s role has reduced this season, starting just four times in the Bundesliga.
Musiala, meanwhile, is a reported transfer target for several of Europe’s elite clubs, though Bayern are keen to agree a new contract with the influential midfielder.
Leverkusen will demand a record fee to part with Wirtz, eclipsing the £72m that took Kai Havertz to Chelsea in 2021. Xabi Alonso’s side are understood to value Wirtz between €120-130m (£104m-£112m).
