Manchester United join chase for Stuttgart striker Guirassy

Manchester United have joined the growing list of clubs interested in triggering Serhou Guirassy’s release clause at Stuttgart in the January transfer window.

Guirassy has had a sensational start to the season to fire Stuttgart into Champions League contention, with the forward having scored 15 goals in just eight Bundesliga starts.

The 27-year-old set a new record for goals scored after seven fixtures of a Bundesliga campaign, breaking Robert Lewandowski’s landmark after scoring 13 times.

The Guinea international is understood to have a release clause of just €17.5m (£15m) in his contract with the German club, a figure which has put clubs across Europe on red-alert.

French publication Foot Mercato are reporting that Manchester United are keen on a deal, joining the likes of Newcastle, Roma, West Ham and Fulham in chasing a deal for Guirassy. Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled for goals this season and are the lowest scorers inside the Premier League’s top half.

Marcus Rashford has been unable to replicate his form from last season, while Rasmus Hojlund is still awaiting his first Premier League goal despite some encouraging European performances.

Guirassy would represent a more experienced option to supplement the summer signing, at a cut-price cost considering his impact in the Bundesliga this season. However, the forward is expected to join up with Guinea for the Africa Cup of Nations in January and could be absent from club action for a month at the tournament.
