Klopp calls Salah an all-time great as forward nears 200 Liverpool goals

Jurgen Klopp has called Mohamed Salah an all-time great as the forward closes in on 200 goals for Liverpool.

Salah needs just one more goal to reach a double century in all competitions for the Reds, a milestone just four players have reached in the club’s history.

The 31-year-old’s next league goal will also be his 150th in the Premier League, which will move the Egyptian level with Michael Owen and into the division’s top ten goalscorers.

Salah has been in superb form this season and has provided 16 goals and assists in 14 league appearances for the Reds, with Klopp admitting the forward’s numbers have made him an all-time great.

“He is right up there. A player with his numbers, I’m not sure I will ever coach again,” Klopp said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Sheffield United on Wednesday.

“His development as a man is incredible and very impressive, as a player as well. All-time great, without a shadow of a doubt.”

Klopp provided team news on his side and confirmed that Diogo Jota and Alisson both remain out. There was also bad news on Joel Matip, who is facing a longer spell on the sidelines.

[Jota] was running yesterday, outside. Everything is going in the right direction but he is not in team training. Alisson is closer but will not be involved tomorrow.”

On Matip, the German added: “It doesn’t look good. The scan is not done yet. We don’t know how long.”
