Real Madrid will set Kylian Mbappe a deadline of next month to decide whether to join the Spanish giants on a free transfer.
Mbappe’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire at the end of the season, with the forward having turned down the chance to sign a new deal in France.
Real Madrid are long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and have made several previous efforts to sign Mbappe. The Spanish side believed a deal was set to be finalised in 2022, before Mbappe performed a U-turn on his decision to leave PSG and signed a new deal with the Parisians.
Real Madrid are keen to avoid a repeat of that situation and AS are reporting that the club will set Mbappe a deadline to decide. Mbappe is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from January 1, and Madrid are prepared to wait until January 15 for his final decision.
Los Blancos have everything in place to sign Mbappe, should be provide the club with the green light, but will demand a deal is signed and not verbally agreed.
Should Mbappe fail to agree terms by mid-January, Real Madrid will move on to alternative targets, with Manchester City’s Erling Haaland top of the wish-list. A number of the Premier League’s top clubs have been linked with signing Mbappe, should an expected move to Madrid fail to materalise.
Mbappe has scored 230 goals in 278 games since signing for PSG from Monaco in a €180m deal, with the four-time Ligue 1 Player of the Year having finished as the league’s leading scorer in five straight seasons.
However, despite domestic success, PSG have been unable to make an impact in the Champions League. The French champions require a result in their final fixture against Borussia Dortmund this month to progress from the group stage.
