Mo Salah believes that Liverpool “can do something special this year” after staging a comeback against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
Jean-Philippe Mateta put the home side in front just before the hour mark when he converted from the penalty, but the Eagles were reduced to ten men after Jordan Ayew received a second booking.
Salah equalised in the 76th minute with his 150th goal in the Premier League and 200th overall for the Reds, before providing the assist for the winning goal. The Egyptian winger laid it on for impact substitute Harvey Elliott, who scored with a wonderful finish in added time.
“The most important thing was that we won the game,” Salah told TNT Sports after reaching the milestone. “It’s a great feeling. I’m happy for the record and that we won the game.”
Asked if he could see any similarities in the current Liverpool squad to the one that won the Premier League title in 2019/20, Salah responded: “I see the mentality to keep fighting until the end. We keep doing that.
“We have a new team now because there’s six or seven players. We need to give them advice. They’re learning a lot and they’re really nice. We can do something special this year.”
The 31-year-old also praised youngster Elliott after scoring just the second goal of his Premier League career.
“He’s a good kid, he’s learning,” he said. “I like to push him in the gym. He will have a good career. If he wants to speak then just come to me.”
