Ten Hag backs goalless Hojlund to find Man United form

Erik ten Hag has backed Rasmus Hojlund to score goals for Manchester United as the forward’s goalless run continues.

Hojlund has failed to score in 12 league appearances since joining from Atalanta in a £72m deal during the summer transfer window, totalling 798 minutes of Premier League football without a goal.

The 20-year-old did impress during the club’s Champions League campaign, however, scoring five goals despite the club’s group stage exit. He was the joint-leading scorer during the group stage, alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and Atletico Madrid pair Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata.

Ten Hag believes those performances show Hojlund is capable, as the Denmark international looks to break his barren run in the Premier League.

“He has scored in the highest level – in the Champions League he has five goals, which is a massive performance from a young player,” Ten Hag said at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Liverpool this weekend.

“There are not so many young players who can do that. He has the potential, we recognise that and I am sure he will get there.

“He will score in the Premier League. I can see how he is doing it in the training. Of course, players can always be better. He did not score so far in the Premier League – so we have to work on that.”
