Chelsea are prepared to sell Ian Maatsen during the January transfer window with Manchester City and West Ham among the clubs keen on a deal.
Maatsen has failed to start a Premier League fixture for Chelsea so far this season, having turned down the chance to leave the West Londoners last summer. The Blues accepted a bid from Burnley to take the Dutchman on loan with the obligation to make the move permanent for a fee of £31.5m.
Maatsen spent last season on loan at Burnley and starred as the Clarets won promotion to the Premier League, with the 21-year-old included in the Championship Team of the Season.
Despite impressing during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign, Maatsen has failed to earn a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans and has totalled just 132 minutes of Premier League football across 10 substitute appearances.
Chelsea are prepared to sanction the sale of the versatile wide-player in January, with both Manchester City and West Ham keen on a deal for Maatsen, who can feature at full-back or further forward.
According to 90min, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Roma are also interested. Chelsea triggered an option to extend Maatsen’s contract to 2025 earlier this season, protecting his value in the process, but have failed to agree terms on a new deal.
The left-back, who earned his first call-up to the Netherlands national side in September, has been unable to earn opportunities at Chelsea despite the absence of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella. Central defender Levi Colwill has often been preferred at full-back this season.
