Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund was a “very happy” man after his late goal completed a stunning comeback against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
The visitors appeared to be cruising to victory after John McGinn and Leander Dendoncker put them two goals to the good after just 26 minutes.
Alejandro Garnacho thought he had pulled one back for the Red Devils almost immediately after the interval following a brilliant ball from Marcus Rashford, but he was ruled offside following a VAR check.
But the pair teamed up again just before the hour mark as the 19-year-old breached the Villa net before levelling matters in the 71st minute.
Hojlund completed the remarkable turnaround late on, scoring his first Premier League goal to stun Villa and take all three points.
“It has been a while [waiting for a first league goal] but yes I am very happy,” the Dane told Amazon Prime after the final whistle.
“I am the happiest man alive right now. You can see from the celebrations as well. Like [Garnacho] said we believed in ourselves until the very end and got the win today.”
It took Hojlund 15 appearances to get his first goal in England football after scoring five times in six Champions League games this season.
“As the manager has said before I have scored a few goals in the Champions League but of course it has been a while in the Premier League before scoring,” he said. “Now I have got it and I hope I can just build on that and keep going.
“Yes I remember the goal. First-time finish in off the post, good finish so I am happy. I am happy for the three of us attackers as well because we showed a lot of character today, and a lot of confidence.”
