Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe admitted his side “didn’t play particularly well” on Boxing Day as Nottingham Forest won 3-0 at St James’ Park.
Chris Wood returned to haunt his former side as he found the net three times on Tuesday after Alexander Isak had put the Magpies ahead in the first half from the penalty spot.
The result continued Newcastle’s rotten form in December, having lost four Premier League matches as well as exiting the Uefa Champions League and the EFL Cup.
“Our first half performance was pretty good. Second half was difficult, we didn’t play particularly well,” Howe told BBC Match of the Day.
“We were probably close to making it 2-0 then we get caught and they score.
“Newcastle were always in the game. They had pace and physicality. We pride ourselves in defending those situations better and for whatever reason that wasn’t there today.
“I am already analysing what happened today and as always we look to improve. Hopefully we get some training time now.”
