Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was perplexed by the decision to disallow a goal by Harvey Elliott for offside against Burnley.
The 20-year-old poked the ball past James Trafford in the 55th minute, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR check. Mo Salah had obstructed the goalkeeper’s view while in an offside position.
“Only somebody who has never played football can make this an offside. It’s insane when you see that,” the German told Amazon Prime after the final whistle.
“Why do referees create their own view on something? We all watch football and need the referee but we need them to make the right interpretations of the rules. It’s like, wow. Handball is sometimes handball and all these kinds of things.”
Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for Liverpool just five minutes after kickoff with his first goal in 13 matches.
The Reds, however, struggled to put away the 19th-placed Clarets until late on when Diogo Jota came off the bench to secure all three points and send the Merseyside outfit to the top of the Premier League table.
“That’s nice,” Klopp said. “It will probably change and that’s no problem. It was not perfect but we are where we are.”
