In-demand Gyokeres keen to stay at Sporting

Viktor Gyokeres has outlined his intention to stay at Sporting Lisbon despite rumours linking the forward with a move to the Premier League.

Gyokeres has made an instant impact since joining the Portuguese side from Coventry City last summer, with the 25-year-old having hit 17 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this season.

The Swedish striker’s form has alerted England’s top clubs with Arsenal and Chelsea among those reported to have tracked his progress, while West Ham and Fulham are also understood to be targeting a centre-forward in January.

Gyokeres, who has a release clause in his contract worth €100m (£86.9m), has opened up on the transfer speculation and said his intention is to remain in Lisbon.

“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me,” he said to Record when asked about interest from the Premier League.

“I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment. I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now it’s just news. That’s all.

“This is where I want to stay.”
