Manchester United have joined the growing list of Premier League clubs interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres has turned the heads of Premier League clubs after a stunning start at Sporting, having scored 17 goals in 20 appearance in all competitions since arriving from Coventry City in the summer.
The Swedish striker’s performances have attracted reported interest from Inter Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham and Fulham, with reports in Portugal now claiming Manchester United have entered the race.
Correiho da Manha are reporting that Gyokeres could be a January target for the Red Devils, following the announcement of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s £1.3billion deal to purchase a 25 per cent stake in the club. Ratcliffe is set to take charge of football operations and could look to land a major signing in the upcoming transfer window.
Erik ten Hag’s side have scored just 21 goals in the Premier League this season, the same as 18th placed Luton Town, with only three teams having scored less.
Rasmus Hojlund opened his league account for the Red Devils in the Boxing Day win over Aston Villa, but support could be sought for the 20-year-old who has had a challenging adaptation to the Premier League this season.
Gyokeres is understood to have a release clause of €100m (£86.9m) in his contract at the Estádio José Alvalade, though this week discussed his desire to remain with the Portuguese league leaders.
