Gibbs-White secures ‘absolutely incredible’ win over Man Utd for Nottingham Forest

Morgan Gibbs-White scored late on to hand Nottingham Forest a “massive” win over Manchester United at the City Ground on Saturday evening.

Nicolas Dominguez broke the deadlock in the 64th minute before Marcus Rashford equalised with just his third Premier League goal of the season.

But Forest retook the lead almost immediately as former Man United winger Anthony Elanga set up Gibbs-White to score what was ultimately the winning goal.

“It’s absolutely incredible,” the 23-year-old told Sky Sports. “It puts us in such a good position going forward. We all know how hard this period is and I think the boys have been incredible. Credit to the players and the manager for sticking to the way we wanted to play.

“We know United’s counter-attack was always going to be a threat and I think we dealt with that in the first half. In the second half we wanted to go for the game and that left us vulnerable at time. But I thought the boys were excellent and we fully deserved the three points.

“It’s massive. Last season our record at home was incredible. We haven’t been too good this season but we are starting to pick it up now. Our fans are incredible and they deserve it more than anyone.”

Gibbs-White appeared to be nursing an injury after the final whistle, but the former Wolves attacker assuaged any fears it was a serious one.

“I got a dead leg at the end but I’ll be fine,” he said. “It’s been a busy Christmas period but we have to continue.
