Dortmund return ‘advancing’ for Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho’s proposed return to Borussia Dortmund is ‘advancing’ with talks underway between the German side and Manchester United.

Sancho has not featured for Manchester United since his public fallout with Erik ten Hag in September, after the winger denied claims from the manager that he had performed at an unacceptable level in training.

The 23-year-old called himself a scapegoat following Ten Hag’s comments, and has since refused to repair the relationship. A host of clubs have expressed interest in signing Sancho on loan in January, though Dortmund are leading the chase.

Sancho starred across four seasons at Dortmund before his £72.9m move to Old Trafford in 2021, with the England international producing 114 goals and assists in 137 appearances in all competitions.

He was twice named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season and finished as the top scorer in the tournament as Dortmund won the DFB-Pokal in 2020/21.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Manchester United are prepared to accept a loan exit involving a fee, though the Red Devils will need to cover a percentage of Sancho’s salary.

Sancho will hope the return to Dortmund can reignite a career that has stalled in the Premier League. The winger has underwhelmed in a Manchester United shirt, scoring just 12 times in 82 appearances in all competitions, and has not been capped by England since October 2021.
