Thomas Frank has said it will take an ‘unbelievable price’ to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in the January transfer window.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been credited with interest in signing the striker, who will be free to resume his career on January 16 after an eight-month ban for breaching gambling rules.
Toney has shone since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League and has scored 32 goals in 66 top-flight games for the Bees. Only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane outscored the 27-year-old in the Premier League last season, form which has attracted interest from the top end of the division.
However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Brentford’s FA Cup clash with Wolves, Frank said it would take an ‘unbelievable’ offer to persuade the Bees to sell their prized possession.
“He’s a Brentford player, he’s here. Clearly, we have missed a few offensive players and I can’t see why we should sell him. I would love to have him here for a long time.
“If I could ever, ever, ever recommend something, and it’s not for me to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, that’s up to Phil [Giles] and Matthew [Benham], I would say it needs to be an unbelievable price.”
Toney will sit out the final game of his ban when Brentford face Wolves this evening, but will be free to return for the club’s Premier League clash at home to Nottingham Forest on January 20.
