Pochettino discusses Conor Gallagher future amid exit links

Mauricio Pochettino has discussed Conor Gallagher’s future at Chelsea amid speculation linking the midfielder with an exit.

Gallagher has 18 months remaining on his contract in West London and Spurs have been credited with interest in signing the England international.

The 23-year-old has been a regular for Chelsea this season and has captained the club during the current campaign, though the Blues would reportedly consider a sale given the need to meet FFP regulations.

Ahead of facing Preston in the FA Cup third round tomorrow, Pochettino was asked whether Gallagher would still be a Chelsea player by the end of the January transfer window.

“We need to talk about many things but it is clear Conor still has a one-year-and-a-half contract with us and like all of the players at different clubs it is to talk at this point,” the Argentine said at his pre-match press conference.

“Nothing to announce, nothing to say, the club is happy with him, he is happy here.”

“Look, I cannot guarantee I will be here tomorrow. In football, with us, it’s different part of things can happen,” Pochettino continued when asked again on Gallagher’s future.

“Decisions between the club and player. Only the player can guarantee or the club. The player more than the club as the player have one year and half more. He can say I will be here because my contract allows me to be here. It’s about making the right decision for the club, the player and the team.”
