Everton aim to hijack deal for Man United midfielder

Everton are aiming to hijack Sevilla’s deal to sign Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri on loan.

Sevilla had looked set to win the race to sign the 20-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season, with the Tunisian having selected the Spanish side over interest from Freiburg and Lyon.

However, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Everton have now entered the race to sign Mejbri and have opened talks with Manchester United over a potential deal.

Sean Dyche is keen to add to his squad this winter as the Toffees battle against top-flight relegation and Hannibal is viewed as a cost-efficient option to improve the club’s midfield depth.

Everton have lost Idrissa Gueye to the Africa Cup of Nations and are keen to sign Hannibal this month. The latter turned down the opportunity to represent Tunisia at the tournament, after featuring for just 15 minutes in the Premier League since the end of September.

Hannibal spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and has made just four starts in all competitions since his return to Old Trafford in the summer.
