Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has called Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed investment in the club “an inspiration”.
The British billionaire is set to purchase a 25 percent stake in the Red Devils and take over football operations at Old Trafford once the deal with the Glazers has been ratified.
Man United endured a tough first half to the season, losing 14 matches in all competitions before the new year, but the Dutchman promised that his side will “strike back” in the latter half of the campaign.
“It is an inspiration. Everyone is optimistic,” Ten Hag told ITV after his team’s 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.
“There is a lot of work to do. We’ve had a lot of setbacks and I think in the summer we were in a good way but it is a journey, it is a project and now we have to deal with some setbacks but we will keep alive, survive it and strike back.”
Ten Hag was pleased to see Man United progress in the competition, but felt his side could have been more clinical with the chances they created in front of goal.
“In the first half I think we created five or six very good chances,” he said. “I think it was very good football. We should have taken more, but if you don’t score you have to stay focused and I think we did that tonight.”
Man United will travel to either Newport County or Eastleigh in the fourth round. They return to Premier League action this weekend, hosting Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
