PSG president insists Mbappe is ‘happy’ in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al Khelaifi has insisted that Kylian Mbappe is ‘happy’ at the club, despite approaching the end of his contract at the Parc des Princes.

Mbappe’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the forward informed PSG that he had no intention of signing a new deal last summer.

PSG accepted a world-record £259m bid from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in the summer, but Mbappe turned down a move to the Middle East.

The France captain has been linked with a move to long-term suitors Real Madrid on a free transfer, while several Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation at PSG.

Mbappe has scored a club-record 237 goals in 284 games for Paris Saint-Germain and Al Khelaifi has not ruled out the 25-year-old recommitting his future to the Parisian side.

“I see Kylian very happy now. I’ve never seen Mbappé being that happy,” Al Khelaifi told Le Parisien.

“I’m confident on Mbappé situation as he’s French and he’s in Paris, captain of the national team, PSG vice captain, playing for a top club. I trust Kylian Mbappé and I want to protect him.

“He’s a good guy and he won’t do anything negative against the club”.

Mbappe discussed his future after scoring in PSG’s win over Toulouse in The Trophée des Champions last week and said he is yet to make a decision on his future beyond this season.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, are understood to have set a deadline of mid-January for Mbappe to make a decision on whether to sign for the Spanish side.

Mbappe was set to sign or Real Madrid in 2022, before doing a U-turn and signing a new contract with PSG. The La Liga side are keen to avoid a repeat of that situation this summer.
